Key Responsibilities for the role include:
- Contribute to the technical planning, scheduling, and successful execution of small to medium projects embedded design projects
- Communicate with the design team about requirements, design rationale, analysis of designs, and any issues clearly and openly
- Work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary engineering team on both hardware and embedded software development
- Have constant interactions and make design trade-offs with systems engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, and manufacturing support engineering
- Support other engineering functions as needed in the design process with deliverables such as test fixtures, special test firmware, etc.
- Design and develop custom embedded PCBs that provide monitoring and control of our products (including the circuit design and analysis, high-speed design, analog, and mixed-signal designs, linear and switching regulators, and familiarity with PCB schematic capture tools)
- Develop, maintain, modify, and troubleshoot embedded software code (primarily C) running on a variety of embedded systems from low-cost PIC microcontrollers to medium-power ARM Cortex M microcontrollers to high-end embedded Linux SOM
- Responsibilities encompass all phases of development including requirements, design concept, functional and physical block diagrams, electrical interface definitions, circuit analysis, schematic capture, circuit simulation, BOM generation, PCB layout direction, EMI compliance, material costing, design verification and acceptance test generation and execution, hardware debug, and production support
- Participation in the improvement of the organizational processes and documentation
- Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
- Leads the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application
- Exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments
Basic Required Skills:
- Embedded hardware design (Basic circuit design and analysis)
- Schematic Capture & PCB Layout tools
- Underlying background knowledge of the electronics manufacturing process
- Embedded software design (C, C++)
- Debugging skills (hardware troubleshooting, embedded software debugger operation)
- Disciplined source control practices such as Git.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the use of Sharepoint
- Good communication skills and a willingness to share knowledge
- Ability to multi-task
- Advanced English, both writing and speaking
Beyond the basic required skills, additional consideration will be given to applicants who have experience in the following areas:
- Agile design experience
- Experience with community documentation paradigm (e.g. Confluence, Wiki)
- Automation of electronic test equipment
- CAN communications protocol
- SNMP protocol
- Experience with radio, RF, and Microwave electronics
- Experience with microwave test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, PNA, etc)
- Embedded Linux Development (Yocto)
- Familiarity with Digi Embedded Linux SOMs
- Familiarity with STM32F series microcontrollers
- Familiarity with NXP Cortex-M series microcontrollers
- FPGA high-speed design using Altera programmable logic using tools such as ModelSim, VHDL, and Verilog
- MTBF analysis of embedded electronics products
- National Instruments Labview applications
- Working knowledge of relational database models including SQL
- Embedded web server, simple HTML
